Getting There & Away
St. Vincent & the Grenadines contains six airports, however for getting to and from the country only one is of importance. This is E.T. Joshua Airport, located in Kingstown on St. Vincent. There are no direct flights from Europe or North America to St. Vincent, with all flights coming through various gateway islands. The major gateways are Barbados, Grenada, Martinique, Puerto Rico, St. Lucia and Trinidad. Major airlines such as British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines, Air Canada, Air France, BWIA and Air Jamaica all offer direct and competitively priced flights to the gateway destinations. There is a departure tax of EC$40 for all passengers departing the country.
Getting Around
Air
Four of the other airports are smaller, domestic airports, located on the islands of Bequia, Mustique, Canouan and Union Island. Palm Island, meanwhile, has a private airport. Airlines such as Caribbean Star, Caribbean Sun, BWIA Express, SVG Air, Mustique Airways and TIA. American Eagle Services Canouan service these routes.

Ferries provide transport between the islands of St. Vincent & the Grenadines. The ferry schedule can be found by clicking here. Be aware that the sechdule is affected by weather and other local conditions, and, as such, can change without notice. It is suggested that you speak to your accommodation provider for the most up-to-date ferry information. As well, it is recommended that you arrive at least 15 minutes before scheduled departure.
Taxi
Taxis are a common and convenient way of getting around St. Vincent. Although the government has set the fare-rates, the taxis are unmetered, and therefore the price should be agreed upon before beginning the journey. Late night or early morning journeys will usually incur a fare increase. The average fare from the airport to Indian Bay or Villa is about EC$15-20, whereas a fare from Indian Bay to Kingstown will usually be around EC$25.
Bus
A cheaper option than a taxi, and one which the locals use, is to catch one of the brightly coloured buses that link the major towns and villages of St. Vincent. The bus terminal at the New Kingstown Fish Market is the main departure point. Depending upon the length of the journey, the fares will usually range from between EC$1 and EC$6. Also popular are the minibuses, which stop when flagged down, rather than at specific stops, and run frequently between Indian Bay, Villa and Kingstown.
Hire Car
Renting a car is a more expensive option, but it does allow the freedom to explore the island. Driving is on the left hand side. The roads on St. Vincent are narrow and twisting, and drivers are advised to beep their horn when going around the sharp curves, in order to warn drivers coming from the other direction. A temporary licence is required in order to drive in St. Vincent, and it can be purchased at the police station on Bay Street for EC$50 upon presentation of a valid overseas driving licence.
